Parker McCollum continues his meteoric rise with new album – Never Enough.

Multi-Platinum MCA Nashville singer-songwriter, Parker McCollum, has returned with his brand new album, Never Enough, out now. The album continues McCollum’s meteoric rise, built on a rock-solid sonic foundation that blends together country and rock with ease, bristling with honesty and attitude. There is a real sense, more than on his previous, that McCollum is lifting the veil on who he is as a human and artist, an unvarnished and authentic view of himself, brought out under the capable hands of Jon Randall, who helmed the production. This unbarred view of himself and his inner psyche is the biggest marker between Gold Chain Cowboy and Never Enough, as he paints a vivid narrative of love and heartache (there’s a lot of heartbreak on this record, but it’s artfully and poignantly done).

McCollum has a firm handle on the heritage of country music itself, that comes through on this record. There is undeniably a honky tonk feel and thread that runs through Never Enough, most often in the melancholic songs of heartbreak. So, on ‘Best I Never Had,’ McCollum mourns the one that got away with the refrain, ‘I just wanted you to know, you’re the best I never had‘ and on ‘Stoned’ he stays stoned to run away from his melancholia. ‘I feel like the whole world won’t ever understand my heart / That’s the hardest part / Of being alone / That’s why I stay stoned.’ Of course, it is not just heartbreak that is a hallowed trope in country music – drinking songs are not to be forgotten on the huge track – ‘Handle On You.’ It’s a classic and witty country drinking song, with the refrain, ‘Tennessee and Kentucky ’cause you ain’t here to love me.’ This will doubtless go number one at some point, given its easy charm that suckers you in.

There’s a good deal of focus on life lessons and reflection on this album, from ‘Lessons From An Old Man’ where he traipses on the country trope of conversations with an older friend about life’s lessons (‘There’s making a living and there’s making a life / Lessons from an old man made a young man‘) to his gratitude to his mother on ‘Things I Never Told You’ – these more reflective moments showing his growth as an artist.

This is not to say though that McCollum does not indulge his rock side on this album – from the awe-inspiring guitar solo on ‘Hurricane’ where he celebrates his loved one’s independence (‘Yeah, she’s got some attitude / Someday she’s gonna get her name on a hurricane‘) to the electricity of ‘Speed’ and its meaty guitar shreds to the thrumming notes of ‘Don’t Blame Me.’ This last is one of the highlights of the record, a compelling, catchy guitar and beat-driven track where McCollum begs a lover not to blame them for loving him. ‘Wheel’ is perhaps where these ideas of country and rock come together best, a catchy track that is reminiscent of The Eagles as he sings of the resilience of his heart.

McCollum is a nuanced artist though – that is clear on ‘Have Your Heart Again’ a gorgeous piano ballad, where he yearns for a second chance with a lover. The emotion of his vocal is raw and tender, but more than anything the track proves his ability to provide shade on a record and builds out the rich tapestry of himself as an artist. It’s an emotion that is interwoven on ‘Burn It Down,’ where he weaves his vocal and that of a female singer for a stunning heartbreak song about burning away any memories of a relationship and on ‘Tails I Lose’ – doubtless one of the stand-out tracks on the record -a pedal-steel driven heartbreak ballad. ‘Ain’t a damn thing I can do / It’s heads you win / Tails I lose.’ It’s on these melancholic moments that McCollum appears to showcase the brilliance of his unique, raw vocal to its full potential.

What has always been clear is the strength of McCollum’s handle on who he is as an artist and songwriter, co-writing all the songs on the record, in a way that allows him to infuse country and rock seamlessly. This record hammers that fact home, building out a rich tapestry of songs and stories – from heartbreak to love and gratitude, accomplished without letting a single brilliant guitar riff slip through the cracks.

2022 was a breakout year for Parker McCollum, now he is kicking off 2023 with a brand new music video for his track, ‘Handle On You,’ out now.

Last year proved to be a breakthrough year for Country music star, Parker McCollum – scoring major music accolades (ACM and CMT Awards), RIAA multi-Platinum and Gold certifications, two #1 hit singles and a non-stop touring schedule. Now, he is poised to take on this year with renewed energy and is setting his sights on the biggest year of his career yet. The first release for McCollum in 2023 is his latest music video for his single, “Handle On You,” which is currently in the Top 15 at Country Radio and has surpassed 80 Million global streams to date. Directed by Jim Wright, the beautifully shot video gives insight into the push and pull of balancing a career that you love but takes you away from home and the people closest to you – striking a middle ground with humble perspective.

“Shot half of the video at a sold out show in my hometown – 20,000 people at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. Shot the other half at our Family Ranch in East Texas. Seemed like the perfect opportunity to get to come home and showcase, on-camera, the place I love the most while doing what I love to do the most. I love this song and wrote it with my buddy Monty Criswell and I feel like we really kind of went in a different direction with it from my other songs. Putting this thing on film and giving the viewers a look into my life at home and on the road was an important visual for me to have go along with the track. So, in short, I love every bit of it and hope the fans dig it. Can’t wait for it to be out!”- Parker McCollum

McCollum also recently announced all of his currently scheduled tour dates for 2023.

Tickets for all of Parker’s upcoming tour dates are available here.

Apple Music Global Up Next alum Parker McCollum and Conner Smith join Thomas Rhett for the sixth episode of Where We Started Radio. Conner and Parker share how they pursued their interest in music, who they consider to be some of their biggest influences and what they are most looking forward to on the Bring The Bar To You Tour. Tune in and listen to the episode in-full on-demand here.

Conner Smith on developing an interest in songwriting,
My mama is an interviewer and a TV reporter, so she was working at the local channel four station, NBC station in Nashville when we moved here, and she was just kind of raising her hand for all the country music jobs. So she would do red carpets and all that. Well, they asked her to host a TV show every Sunday night on the local station, that was called Nashville Music and More, so it was just all about the music scene, so people like your dad [Rhett Akins], or Craig Wiseman, or Rivers Rutherford, she would interview these guys and have them play these massive hit songs, and then talk about how they wrote these songs. So I was a five- six-year-old watching the show and watching these interviews. I would literally sit there and watch them like they were movies, because there was something that fascinated me about telling these stories and writing country songs. So I started to do it when I was six. I was like, “That’s what I want to do,” because I understood that that was a job that was an option.
Conner Smith on getting a publishing deal at 16
For me, it was just always a part of what I did was writing songs. I played baseball and I wrote songs and it’s just always kind of who I was. So when I was 16, I connected with a dude named Zach Crowell, who’s my producer now. And he produces Sam [Hunt] and Dustin [Lynch] and wrote “Country Again” for you. And he saw the video of me singing a song he wrote called “Cop Car” and saw something in me that, looking back at it now, is crazy to me and signed me to a publishing deal. And I was a junior in high school and both my parents and me, as well, they were like, “This is awesome, but you’re staying in school. There’s really no question about that.” Once again, being in Nashville, I was able to go to school. I went to a school called Brentwood Academy that was perfect, man. They let me go to school until about 11:30, and then they let me go write songs at 12:00 on Music Row and then come back and play in baseball games at 4:00. We had my first hometown show in Nashville and all my teachers showed up and to have all their support was massive. But yeah, I mean, I got to do it all and I got to write about what I was living because I didn’t drop out of school and just become an adult. I got to be a high schooler and go to prom and start on the baseball team and do it all, and so I was able to draw from that well to write songs about.
Conner Smith on seeing Thomas Rhett on his first headlining tour
I remember being 16 when you put out “Sixteen.” And I remember playing it for my mom in the car. I remember the road. I remember… And she looks at me after the second verse. You talk about all you want is unsupervised Saturday night. And she looks at me and she goes, “Did he write this about you?” And that same year, you were doing your first headlining tour. It was you and Kelsea [Ballerini] and Russell [Dickerson] and Ryan [Hurd]. I bought two tickets to go to Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville and took this girl that I was talking to at the time. And I was trying to get her to date me. And you’re 16, you’re trying to figure out what to do. You’re trying to be smooth. I think I tried to dance with her on “Die A Happy Man” or whatever. But we go to the show, and then after the next day, two days later, dude, we broke up. And that shows we just never nailed it. So all I know is that five years later, I’m opening up for you on that same tour. So it all worked out just fine.
Parker McCollum on songwriting, his brother’s support
I think I was a freshman in high school, my brother was in college at the time, at Tarleton State in Stephenville, Texas. And I’d always be trying to write something that I could play for and be like, “Well, when my big brother got home, I could play it and try to impress him.” And everything I would ever come up with, he would just, I would get no reaction. He’d be like, “I don’t know what you’re doing.” And man, I had just gotten my first truck. I was driving home one day, and I had pulled over into this Jack in the Box parking lot in my hometown, and just wrote down these verses and choruses, a song called, “Permanent Headphones.” And then my brother came home for Christmas break and I was like, “Man, I wrote this song. I’ll play it for you.” And it was “Permanent Headphones.” And after I played it, he’s like, “Dude, you’re going to be really big time in this.” He’s like, “Dude, actually.” He was really the first person to be like, “You’re good. You can do this.” And that was enough, right? So him giving me that vote of confidence was huge for me. And from then on, I was just always trying to write songs like that.
Parker McCollum on writing with Rhett Akins
Man the first time we ever wrote, I think he [Rhett Akins] chewed like an entire bag of Red Man Silver Leaf or Red Man Silver Label and I was like, “Man, me and this guy are going to get along.” And, just really enjoyed riding with him. And, then I think the second might have been the second time we ever wrote together, I’d written that first verse in chorus “To Be Loved By You” on the bus the weekend before. And, I was like, “Man, I just started this other day,” I was, “Maybe we can finish it.” And, I played it and he loved it. I mean, he was like, eyes kind of lit up and every time I’ve ever written with him or we finished it that day and every time I’ve ever written with him, it’s been the same thing, man. We just… It’s like hanging out with a buddy, you know? It doesn’t feel like work. It doesn’t feel like a normal co-write like it’s… You know, we kind of hit it off.

Parker McCollum – newly awarded ACM New Male Artist of the Year – has released his cover of the George Strait classic, “Carrying Your Love With Me.”  Texan native McCollum has called Strait one of his biggest influences.

“Impossible to truly do this song justice but when I got the opportunity to try, I just couldn’t pass it up,” says McCollum.

This has been a big week for McCollum – attending his very first ACM Awards show and taking home the trophy for New Male Artist of the Year at the ceremony held in Las Vegas before taking the stage to perform his hit song, “Pretty Heart.” Tomorrow night, McCollum will be making a lifelong dream come true as he makes his RODEOHOUSTON debut to a sold-out crowd.

Parker McCollum’s debut MCA Nashville album Gold Chain Cowboy was the highest first week debut album of 2021 and his platinum single “Pretty Heart” was the only debut single to ship to radio and reach #1 in 2020.  With over 1 billion LTD domestic streams, McCollum was named this year’s ACM New Male Artist of the Year.  He also has been named an ‘Artist to Watch’ by Rolling StoneBillboardSiriusXMCMTRIAA, and more, as well as MusicRow’s 2021 Breakout Artist of the Year and an all-genre Apple Up Next Artist for 2021. McCollum sold out over 40 shows in 2021.

Parker McCollum joins Morgan Evans for an interview on the latest episode of Country Wide Radio on Apple Music Country – the singer-songwriter and Apple Music Up Next alum discusses his major label debut album ‘Gold Chain Cowboy’, leaving Texas for Nashville and the differences between both scenes, his upcoming headlining slot at the Houston Rodeo, and more. Listen to the interview with Parker McCollum here.

Parker McCollum On The Differences Between Texas and Nashville Country…
I feel like it’s all kind of mixed in together now. I feel like this new batch of kids that are coming up in the Texas scene, I mean, I feel like they’re probably spending more time in Nashville, writing more songs in Nashville. A lot of these kids are coming here to do a lot of their creative process and production and songwriting and stuff. I think there was kind of this rift back in the day between Texas and Nashville and kind of all that stuff going on and it just doesn’t exist anymore. Texas is super special. It is different, certainly, in a good way. The youngest I can remember being and being in love with country music, so much of those guys were considered Texas country artists. When I was little, I was like, “Man, I want to play Texas country,” and as I got older, I was like, “Man, I don’t want to just play in Texas, I want to go all over, see the world, tour everywhere.” The thought was in my mind of walking that line between being a Texas singer/songwriter or just being a country singer/songwriter. Both are very unique and both have a lot of talented people coming out of both places.
Parker McCollum On His Upcoming Headlining Slot at the Houston Rodeo in March 2022…
I mean, that’s one I’ve been thinking about since I was 10 years old, literally. I grew up just 40 miles north of Houston, so I’ve been a Houston Texans fan my whole life, the NFL football team, and that’s their stadium that Houston Rodeo’s in is NRG Stadium. I’ve been going there my whole entire life, just always dreaming, just wondering all the time. Every day I’d be like, “That’s the goal is to headline that thing.” It’s 85,000 people. It’s absolutely the biggest thing I could have ever thought I would get to do when I first picked up a guitar. When I got the phone call, I don’t know, I’m not an emotional person at all, but so many nights on the road, I mean, just so much uncertainty through this whole thing since I started, and always working so hard and missing everything important in life to go play shows and be on the road and chasing this dream, and then you get a phone call like that. It was all worth it.
Parker McCollum on What He Learned Recording His First Album For a Major Label and What He’d Do Differently Moving Forward…
Parker McCollum: Now, I feel like on this next album, I’ll really have a good idea of, “I need to put my foot down here and make sure this is driving the ship a little more,” I guess, for lack of a better term. I really was kind of following John Randall’s lead a lot on this album, and I’m really glad I did. He was right about 99% of everything we did, and he has such great ideas and was so talented. But I just felt like I didn’t give these songs the time and the critique that I did to my two earlier albums. I didn’t necessarily pick all these songs apart like I usually do. I think I’ll probably get back to that on the next album.
Morgan Evans: Yeah. Are you a rewriter? You write it maybe in one day, and then go back and edit and edit?
Parker McCollum: No, man. I usually write a verse and a chorus and won’t even think about the idea for two years until I stumble back across it. But, some of these, I felt like I just rushed them. I was a little frustrated with the process, and I was kind of like, “Nah, doesn’t matter. Just record it and put it out there.” And I just kind of wish I wouldn’t have done that on a couple tracks. But I think the record turned out great. I don’t know what it sounds like. When I listen to any album I’ve put out, I can’t really figure out who it sounds like, and I think that’s a good thing.

Parker McCollum began building a following in his native Texas with 2015’s The Limestone Kid. The album track “Meet You in The Middle” became a hit on Texas’ regional radio chart, but it was the album’s widely-acclaimed follow-up, Probably Wrong, that helped Parker find national success. Bridging the gap between Texas’ homegrown music scene and Nashville’s country-industry headquarters, Parker’s songwriting earned him a publishing deal with Warner/Chappell Nashville in May 2018 and a recording deal with Universal Music Group Nashville in June 2019. In 2020, Parker released Hollywood Gold, the highest-selling debut country EP of 2020, which includes debut No.1 hit single “Pretty Heart,” and was certified Platinum, as well as playlisted across Apple Music top tier playlists, Today’s Country, and Don’t Mess With Texas. Parker followed with his 2021 major label debut, Gold Chain Cowboy, which was the top Country album in 17 countries on Apple Music, including the US, since its release. Earlier this summer, Parker played his first sold-out show at the Dallas, TX Dos Equis Pavilion to a crowd of 20K fans and this fall he played the famed Woodlands (The Cynthia Wood Mitchell Pavilion) in Woodlands, TX, to a sold out crowd which broke attendance records for the venue.

“All I ever wanted was a real shot in country music. To be an Apple Music Up Next artist is an incredible honour and it means so much to me to have a platform like Apple believe in me,” says Parker McCollum. “I always try to keep my head down and earn every little thing so to have this spotlight for a little while is nice. I do not take it for granted. Now back to work. Mad love.”

“Gritty, believable, and absolutely made for the spotlight,“said Apple Music Country host Kelleigh Bannen. “Parker McCollum is one of those rare artists who has been able to translate serious regional fame into mainstream success without compromising his core artistic identity.”

In his Up Next film out today, Parker McCollum shares his journey working on a Texas ranch for his granddad, who got him into artists like George Strait, picking up a guitar because of his older brother, and telling his dad he was going to sign a major record deal one day. Parker tells Apple Music, “I wanted to do it the hard way. I really wanted to earn it. I didn’t want anybody to be able to say anybody bought me anything,” and talks about how he put a band together, recorded music, and toured on his own before getting an offer from every major label in town. He also talks about the rise of his song ‘Pretty Heart,’ the world shutting down two weeks after the song went to radio, and how the pandemic helped him lead a healthier lifestyle.

Additional Up Next campaign moments include a Jimmy Kimmel Live! performance on November 23rd, and a sit down interview with Apple Music Country’s Kelleigh Bannen, where he discusses his Gold Chain Cowboy album, being inspired by Pat Green, playing the Ryman, and the one song that defines him.

Today rising country star Parker McCollumreleased his own version of fellow Texan George Strait’s classic “Carrying Your Love with Me,” as part of a campaign launching today by Spotify which celebrates one of the most iconic decades of country music: The 90s. As fans return to listening to songs and albums of that decade in droves, Spotify is honoring those timeless classics with a microsite, Spotify Singles, video content, and more. Featured as one of three 90s Spotify Singles, Parker McCollum’s reimagined version of “Carrying Your Love With Me,” which was a hit by Strait in 1997, was recently recorded in Nashville.

“George Strait has been my favorite country singer my whole life. I wasn’t going to pass on the chance from Spotify to cover one of his songs,” says McCollum.  “This song is such a classic staple in country music so I was really hoping we could get it right and do the song justice. I think we did. I sure hope he and (producer) Tony Brown would think so too if they heard it.”

According to unique user data from Spotify, US streams of the 90s Country playlist have grown 150% since 2018, and 70% among Gen-Z users in that time. Additionally, there are currently 89 million playlists from Gen-Z users containing iconic 90s Country tracks. Spotify also found that as many fans between 19-24 listen to Spotify’s 90s Country playlist as fans over 45.  That means interest in 90s Country is just as prevalent amongst fans who were just born or not born yet than it is amongst fans who were young adults at the time, showing the timeless nature of these songs.

Interview Parker McCollum
Parker McCollum on writing “Wait Outside”
With that chorus of that song “Wait Outside,” I had that… I wrote that chorus five years ago probably. Four or five years ago. And I finished it with Jon Randall and Randy Rogers. I’d just been saving it for a long time and never really could… Never really loved it until Jon got his hands on it and Randy got his hands on it that I changed my mind. The record starts with that song talking about I will love you forever and ever. And then the last song on the record is, “I Wish I’d Never Loved You At All.” I don’t know how those made the top and the bottom but they did.
Parker on writing “To Be Loved By You” years ago while dating now fiancé Hallie Ray
I wrote it a while ago. Probably a couple of years ago by now and so she did inspire the song. I said out loud to somebody… Her and I were going at it at the time, and she was in Oklahoma and I was in Texas, and I would go on the road. I said out loud, “What does a man have to do to be loved by you?” Out of frustration. And my buddy Lane, who I was with, was like, ” I think you should write that down.” So I wrote a verse and a chorus, finished it with my buddy Rhett Akins, and that one too is on there. I lived them all for sure.
Parker on how things have changed since his early days touring in Texas
Nothing’s really changed. It still feels… I haven’t really changed my approach to this thing, and maybe that’s a good thing maybe that’s a bad thing. I don’t know. But since I started doing it, I mean it’s a lot different now, obviously, with buses, and crew, and all kinds of people showing up. But even when we had none of those things, I mean, I really approached it the same way. It never crosses my mind maybe that we’re… Excuse me. Maybe getting close to a big time. I don’t know. Maybe have a real shot at that one day. I don’t know. That’d be… I think about it all the time, but when I walk out on stage I mean, it’s just go out there and sing the songs that they want to hear. And it seems every night that we’ve ever done it it’s gotten a little bit better every night for five years so try to keep that going I guess.
Parker on when he first realized he wanted to pursue a career in country music
I saw Pat Green sell out the Houston Rodeo when I was 12 years old and I can remember that night so well. My brother was sneaking — he’s six years older than me — he was sneaking a beer behind my mom’s back the whole time. This is 80,000 people in Houston. Big-time Houston Rodeo. I saw Pat Green sell it out. I remember thinking that night… Just looking at what he was doing on stage and thinking to myself, “Why am I… Why did I like that so much? Why do I think I can do that?” At 12, I can remember having those thoughts. And then I mean, just thought about it literally every single day all day long since I was 12, about playing shows like that and being on stages like that.

Parker McCollum Gold Chain Cowboy

Singer/songwriter Parker McCollum has announced that he will release his major label debut album Gold Chain Cowboy July 30 on Snakefarm Records in the UK. Produced by Jon Randall, the 10-song project – written exclusively by McCollum – includes his Platinum-selling No. 1 hit “Pretty Heart” and his latest song on country radio “To Be Loved By You.”

Straddling Texas and Nashville, Parker has not only written on his own – the staggering Green Day-evoking “Rest of My Life” out today – he shares songwriting credits with Randall, Wade Bowen, Randy Rogers, Randy Montana, Rhett Akins, Miranda Lambert and Songwriters Hall of Famer Tony Lane.

Gold Chain Cowboy expands on Parker’s outcast drifter ethos set forth on his widely praised Hollywood Gold EP released last fall which became the top-selling debut country EP of 2020. Parker has been named an ‘Artist to Watch’ by Rolling StoneBillboard, SiriusXM, CMT, RIAA and more. Rolling Stone calls Parker, “a no-holds-barred, confessional singer-songwriter who excels at relatable tales,” while American Songwriter notes, “The Texas native teeters on the edge of next-level superstardom.”
